CINEKINIMA

PRESS RELEASE
The first meeting of the Cinekinima Organising Committee marks a new chapter for the long-suffering independent Greek cinema.
The inaugural meeting of the Cinekinima Organising Committee took place on 5 May 2025 in Athens, heralding the launch of an inspiring new initiative in support of independent cinema in Greece.
Cinekinima is a developing movement founded on the principles of creative expression, collaboration, and cinematic freedom. Cinekinima was founded by Yannis Paraskevopoulos (cinematographer), who played a pivotal role in encouraging and shaping the movement. Its aim is to establish an open platform for independent cinematic expression and dialogue.
The committee was established following an open forum held on 16 April 2025 at Studio New Star Art Cinema, Athens, where interested participants and delegates convened to express their support for this grassroots initiative.
The committee members are:
- Yiannis Paraskevopoulos
- Dimitris Falireas
- Penelope Anastasiasou
- George Papagaroufalis
- Kostis Basogiannis
- Elena Giokari
- Kanellos Fotogiannopoulos
- Ilias Dimitropoulos
- Dionysis Lykiardopoulos
- Natasha Smyrnaiou
At today’s meeting, the committee, keynote speakers, cinematographers, visual arts professionals, delegates, and attendees shared ideas and proposals regarding the future, framework, direction, and structure of the movement. The committee also presented the initial version of the Cinekinima website, which is currently under development by committee member and filmmaker, Ilias Dimitropoulos.
All events, meetings minutes, keynote speeches, and discussions were recorded and will eventually form the consolidated inaugural agenda. This will serve as the foundation for further discussions on ongoing progress and related developments, which will be addressed at the next committee meeting, scheduled for Monday, 26 May 2025.
The committee expresses its sincere gratitude to director and committee member George Papagaroufalis for his generous and unconditional provision of the venue for today’s gathering.
Cinekinima was born from a shared need between Greek cinema actors, who persistantly demand artistic freedom, sustainable and meaningful collaborations and financial support.
“Cinekinima is conceived as an ecology of observation, rich with potential within this dynamic and turbulent creative environment. Here, every idea signifies a possible universe. Each creation becomes both a particle of possibility and a particle of probability, its behaviour governed by the probabilistic nature of its creative actors. Much like the phenomena observed in quantum physics, a form of entanglement occurs -an event that resists simple explanation-, where anything becomes possible on this screen, as the same idea and image are simultaneously shared with wide and diverse audiences.” Minutes from Dimitris Falireas intervention, recorded and edited by Natasha Smyrnaiou.
Further updates and announcements will be shared in due course. The committee remains in active communication with Greek cinema actors, as the cinematographers movement continues to grow and evolve.
